If there is one stereotype about black people that’s true ya’ll it’s that black does not crack. At 86-years-old, Millie Taylor-Morrison didn’t look a day over 50 when she walked down the aisle in October 2016 on her wedding day. She slayed left and right the whole way down!
Looking regal in a purple gown that was far from traditional, Millie was made for the camera that day, and proved it. Her wedding photo soon went viral and was shared almost five thousand times on Facebook alone! Guess her new husband, Harold, has to share his blushing bride just a bit, but he had to have known that when they got together because Millie’s always had it together in the fashion department. Her granddaughter Khadija Elkharbibi told People, “She is known for her beautiful sense of style. It doesn't matter where she goes, church, family gathering, store run …She never leaves the house without her hair or makeup being done and she always wears heels!”
So it’s no surprise to any of us that Millie played a role in designing this stunning gown. She did have some help from designer Marco Hall and shared with People, “I had a vision of what I'd like this dress to be, so I asked a young man in my church who is an artist to sketch it and I took it to the dressmaker.”
On top of Millie’s dress being the talk of the town, not only between their some 200 wedding guests, but clearly the rest of the world - it’s her and Harold’s love story that has people excited for these two. They met back in the ‘50s in church, and later reconnected decades later when he joined her new church. The romance didn’t blossom until Harold fell ill a couple of times, Millie moved in to care for him and he got his health back.
Can you see this as a Lifetime Original Movie? We can, but back to the dress because we are forever loving this. Usually older brides fall victim to either dressing too young picking a princess, ballroom gown, or too matronly by covering up all the wrong ways, but here - Millie’s vision for her big day worked out perfectly.
